Auden portable air conditioner in pale oak with a slatted front, in a sunlit sitting room beside a leather armchair, its hose running to a sash window

The white plastic box has had a good run.

The standard portable AC did the job, but it never fit in. Auden is made to be looked at, and it belongs in the room it cools.

The same sitting room twice: on the left a standard white plastic portable air conditioner with a cardboard-taped window, on the right Auden in pale oak with a slatted front and a fern on its top

A traditional portable AC vs Auden Air

Made to belong.

Designed in London, in pale European oak chosen for its straight, quiet grain. Fine slats run down the front, the corners are softly rounded, and the top floats a finger’s width above the case.

“Rather annoyingly, it’s the nicest thing in the room.”

“Finally, an appliance that looks as though someone considered the rest of the house.”

“My partner and I both liked it. An unusually efficient discussion.”

Inside the oak is a serious compressor: 9,000 BTU, plenty to cool a large room through a heatwave. Auden also uses vapour-compression cooling, the same underlying refrigeration cycle used in air-conditioning units aboard the International Space Station. Designed for comfort here on Earth.
